Malt Cottage, Nayland
Malt Cottage is a unique 15h century hall house oozing charm and character. Owners Sara and Kevin have put their heart and soul into this gorgeous bolthole in historic Nayland on the banks of the pretty river Stour - and it shows!
This cottage truly is a joy - its romantic antique furnishings and rugs give it unmistakable charm. Light flows into the sun bathed kitchen, dining room and very pretty garden room where you can sit and relax with one of the books from the well stocked library. These rooms all look out over the lovely enclosed private garden where you’ll find comfortable lounging chairs and a gazebo seat.
The living room dates back to 1420 and features a fabulous open fire and comfy sofas perfect for curling up on during those cosy winter nights.
You’ll love the lime washed walls that give this cottage so much warmth and comfort. The antique furniture reflects the historic importance of this Suffolk hall house and owner Sara has carefully handpicked rugs and textiles from her shop in nearby Long Melford to complement this.
Follow the stairs with its alcove full of treasures up onto the landing and you’ll find two good sized bedrooms. The room at the top of the stairs boasts a majestic French antique bed and a beautiful vaulted ceiling, making this retreat a perfect honeymoon cottage. The second bedroom is bright and airy with an antique Indian wedding arch full of embroidered symbols of good wishes and hope.
Have a relaxing soak in the roll top bath in the luxury upstairs bathroom or if you prefer an invigorating shower then the downstairs shower room will be right up your street.
Nayland is a beautiful village on the banks of the river Stour with some great pubs, in particular The Anchor; a fabulous riverside pub with its own smokehouse and a great selection of local ales. There are also some well-stocked local shops including a great butcher who also sells fresh bread, cheese and vegetables.
The countryside surrounding Nayland is great for walking and exploring. You can walk along the river Stour and The Pilgrims Way and Dedham Vale are within close reach. If you bring your four legged friend then there are plenty of walks into the countryside straight from this dog friendly cottage (you can even bring two dogs if well behaved!).Check Availability & Prices
