The Coach House at The Rookery | A cottage for two in the romantic Cotswold countryside

It’s the little things that make all the difference. And Jenny and Owain of The Coach House at The Rookery have certainly got all those little things right. For instance the warm welcome including a tray laden with home-made cakes fresh from the Aga, a variety of of local produce and a bottle of wine from the nearby Bow-in-the-Cloud vineyard. Or the fluffy thick towels and extra-long bathrobes from The White Company, a free entry pass to the world-class Westonbirt Arboretum and even a babysitter service.

The Coach House is a little gem, beautifully appointed and inventively laid out. Downstairs you’ll find the fully kitted out kitchen with dining area; light, spacious and great for rustling up a romantic meal for two. A hallway leads to the luxury bathroom where you can relax with a good soak in the roll-top bath with luxury toiletries provided. The calming bedroom with its high ceiling features a super comfy kingsize bed and flat screen TV. We love the fact that you can wander out through the double doors into your own private garden with outdoor seating. Perfect if you’d like to bring your four-legged friends; up to two well behaved dogs are welcome at this dog friendly cottage in the Cotswolds.

Wander upstairs and you’ll be greeted by the galleried living area with comfy sofa, flat-screen hi-definition FreeSat Smart TV and Blu-ray DVD player as well as a music system with iPod dock. The oak beams and vaulted ceilings make for an airy yet cosy feel so you can while away many an hour here.

The cottage is suitable for babies up to six months and baby equipment can be provided on request. And if you fancy a romantic meal out then we recommend the babysitting service provided.

Jenny and Owain are next door to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and can make recommendations for the best places to eat or visit. They even offer to unpack your delivery from one of the internet grocery providers (Ocado, Tesco, Sainsburys all deliver to The Coach House) if you book a slot in the morning; great for a stress-free start to your holiday or romantic break in the Cotswolds.

There is so much to see and do in the local area. A must see is Abbey House Gardens, made famous by ‘naked gardeners’ Ian and Barbara Pollard. Here, every year 20,000 tulip bulbs are planted and the five acre garden features formal knot gardens, the largest collection of roses in the UK, a herb garden and monastic fish ponds just to name a few. When you staying at The Stables you also get to enjoy the free entry pass to the beautiful Westonbirt Arboretum where you will find one of the finest tree collections in the world. Planted by Victorian plant hunters it was carefully laid out to form one of the most important arboretums in the country.

But it’s not all gardens. For a luxury treat, Bowood House offers a perfect mix of a spa retreat and championship golf course, set in a Capability Brown landscape. And culinary treats are plentiful too. From the local Old Bell Hotel, one of the finest Cotswold restaurants thanks to Head Chef Jason Drew, to The Vine Tree, a relaxed affair where fresh local produce is effortlessly combined with a superb selection wines and beers.
