Luxury B&B in Dartmoor National Park ~ Little Shotts at The Shotts, Haytor
Little Shotts at The Shotts is a newly refurbished cottage which was the previous owners’ photographic studio and is now a stunning B&B. It is situated at the entrance of the garden, before a wood, at the end of a very long private lane. The sun pours in through the glass front of the building and through the velux windows in the ceilings. Lying in bed you can stare up through the branches of the surrounding ancient trees and be carried away in your dreams. The main room has a cosy, alpine feel. The bedrooms are bright and airy with a double-ended roll top bath, heated towel rails and Egyptian linens from The White Company. Help yourself to a continental breakfast when you rise. Everything for a Full English Breakfast can also be left in your fridge, if you are happy to cook yourself. The owner will come and put everything in the dishwasher and clean up once you have finished. Alternatively, you can opt out of taking the breakfast option if you'd rather and pay less per night for taking the lodge. With keys to your own front door you have ample privacy and freedom to relax and enjoy yourselves.
When the winter draws in there is a wonderful, large woodburner which throws magical, dancing light round the room adding to the eclectic atmosphere. On the walls are old photos of Haytor, going back to the 20's, some taken by the previous owner who loved photographing Dartmoor.
The garden above Little Shotts has a lovely view out into the woodland and some of the rest of the garden. There is a bench under a tree for you to use and a outside eating area with BBQ. The snowdrops, primroses, violets, bluebells, foxgloves and then rhododendrons and azaleas are all stunning. Then the ferns come out and with the tall bamboos the garden almost feels tropical. This is a real walkers paradise with access straight onto the moor. Nearby there are 4 wonderful pubs, a farm shop with restaurant and Haytor's new cafe - all between 5 minutes to an hours walk, depending on your mood.
The South Sands hold a wonderful collection of beaches and towns. Salcombe and Thurlstone are 45 minutes in the car. The Shotts looks out over Teignmouth with its surrounding coastline and beaches, which is 30 minutes away. Dartmouth is 50 minutes away. All the sandy beaches near Bude and Bideford are 1 hour 15 minutes away.
