Hideaway Cottage is a dog friendly Yorkshire country retreat located near the bustling small market town of Masham with many local attractions on your doorstep. This makes it perfect for a romantic break in Nidderdale, an area of outstanding natural beauty next door to the Yorkshire Dales National Park with plenty of walks, historic houses, cute villages, local individual shops and of course lots of great food and drink for you to enjoy.
The cottage dates back to the 1800’s when it was built as a farmworker’s home on the Swinton Estate. Bursting with character it features a beautiful inglenook fireplace with log burner, exposed stone work and beamed ceilings.
Downstairs you’ll find a super comfy sofa and chair with lots of cushions, facing the wood burning stove - great for those cosy nights in front of the fire. In the living area you’ll also find a dining table with seating for two and the next door kitchen is well equipped.
Upstairs is the gorgeous bedroom with vaulted ceilings and white Egyptian cotton bedding. The stylish bathroom is completed with fluffy bath sheets and locally sourced handmade toiletries from Oakwood Aromatics.
Outside there is a super summerhouse overlooking the cottage style garden, a lovely spot to sit and read a book, enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple and take in the fabulous views.
Hideaway Cottage is a great base for exploring Nidderdale and close by Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales. The friendly market town of Masham is a five minute drive or twenty minute walk from your doorstep and boasts two breweries - Theakston and Black Sheep Breweries. The Georgian market square (where you’ll also find a great market on Wednesdays and Saturdays) is one of the largest in Yorkshire and a host of independent shops, cafes, galleries, restaurants and pubs are positioned around it.
If local food and drink is your thing then this is the place to be. Alison, the owner of Hideaway Cottage told us there are no less than 7 good pubs in the local vicinity so you’ll be spoilt for choice. The area is also well known for its local produce, Wensleydale cheese as made famous by Wallace and Gromit being one of them. A welcome hamper with local goodies will get your stay off to a great start.
With all this lovely food and drink a good walk will be in order. Whether it’s an easy ramble to a challenging hike, with all of the Dales at your feet you’ll be sure to find a superb walk to suit your needs. But it’s not just the fine walks that attract people here. If you fancy a change then we recommend birdwatching, cycling, climbing, pony trekking, canoeing, fishing or shooting just to name a few activities.
For some much needed retail therapy you’ll love Lightwater Valley Shopping Centre at Ripon or a little farther afield is the upmarket spa town of Harrogate with its famous shops and tearooms. Add to this all the historic houses and gardens in the area and you can see why so many keep coming back to this magical part of the country.Check Availability & Book Online
