Stanley Ghyll Cottage | A romantic Lake District Cottage with all the best walks and pubs on your doorstep

If you love The Lake District but aren’t a fan of its crowds then Stanley Ghyll Cottage is the one for you. Set in the romantic Eskdale valley and close to stunning Wastwater, this luxury cottage makes for a perfect ‘get away from it all’ bolthole for two. No wonder then that famous Lakeland writer Alfred Wainwright said about this area that it is a ‘sanctuary of peace and solitude’.

Drive down the cobbled entrance to Bridge End Farm and you’ll be greeted by glorious gardens, 500 year old pink granite walls and Westmorland slate roofs. Here you will find Stanley Ghyll, a beautifully restored one-bedroomed romantic Lake District cottage brimming with luxury and character.

We love the quirky layout of this Lake District retreat. The entrance area is bright and airy with its vaulted ceiling. Here you’ll find the dining area with lovely views and a well equipped kitchen. Around the corner is the cosy bedroom complete with Laura Ashley bedding, exposed stone work and oak beams. The high spec marble shower room is en-suite to this bedroom and a great place to relax after a long day’s walk or explore. Upstairs is the snug lounge, complete with comfy sofa and full Sky TV with all sports, children’s and movie channels, flat screen high-definition television, an I-pod docking station and lots of books, DVD’s and CD’s.

But the big star here has got to be the great outdoors. And it starts right on your doorstep. Stanley Ghyll has its own secret garden with lots of seating so you can take it the glorious scenery around you. Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak is a great hike for those who are in fine fettle but there are plenty of other shorter and gentler walks right from the cottage. One of these is Stanley Ghyll waterfall, only a short walk away and well worth the effort.

There is no end to the number of scenic drives you can take. From breathtaking Wastwater (voted Britain’s Best Loved View) to the lesser known sandy beaches of West Cumbria or a climb up and over Hardknott Pass, England’s steepest road leading you down into the Langdales and towards Ambleside or Grasmere, both lovely little towns with some nice shops and cafes.

When you return from your explorations there is nothing betting than relaxing in a real Lake District country pub. And to say that Boot is only a tiny village, it has no less than five pubs, each serving great food and unique local ales. Two of them are even within a very short walking distance so you can leave the car at the cottage. If you’re lucky to be here in June you can even sample Boot’s own local beer festival, celebrating over 100 local beers and ciders.

Explore the best of The Lake District from this romantic cottage for two, soak up the surrounding scenery, recharge and start planning your next visit to this glorious part of the world.
