Tudor Farmhouse Hotel | A boutique hotel offering country chic and a slice of the good life

Country chic meets the good life at the Tudor Farmhouse Hotel in the glorious Wye Valley. With boutique style rooms, freestanding baths under beamed ceilings, culinary delights created with home-grown ingredients and an unstuffy atmosphere, this is a hidden gem not to be missed. Dog friendly.

When owners Colin and Hari left the big smoke in 2003 they could hardly imagine that their farmstead would one day become one of the leading small boutique hotels in Britain. Now it has become a culinary destination in its own right with head chef Rob Cox championing local food like his ’20 mile menus’ and constantly striving to improve by pioneering new techniques.

Out in the fields there are sheep, ponies, chickens and runner ducks. Many of the vegetables served in the restaurant are grown in the Kitchen garden and the old orchard has been re-stocked with 50 new fruit trees.

Inside the hotel it’s all very crisp and up to date with twenty chic bedrooms featuring fresh neutral colours, roll top baths, monsoon showers, high speed broadband and Nespresso coffee machines. The flashes of exposed stonework and beams are here to remind you that you are in fact staying on an ancient farm. You’ll be guaranteed to have a restful night’s sleep with comfy pocket sprung mattresses, duck feather pillows and duvets and 300 count linen sheets.

You’ll be spoilt for choice on your days out. The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley offer lots of scope for outdoor activities and are rich in heritage, culture and some great food. This area is a treasure trove for nature lovers. There are plenty of relaxing as well as challenging walks right from the hotel’s doorstep and printed descriptions and walking guides are freely available. Puzzlewood is an enchanting 14 acre woodland unlike any other. It’s easy to see why JR Tolkien was inspired by this maze of gnarled tree roots, mossy boulders and a magical canopy. Kate Humble’s farm offers lots of activities and is just a few miles down the road.

For foodies we recommend a foraging trip into the local woods and fields with the hotel’s very own in-house forager Raoul van Den Broucke. Or for those with more of a sweet tooth try a one-on-one tutorial in cake design by Sarah Jones. Her hand painted cakes are something else and you’ll be guaranteed to pick up a trick or two.

Culture is in bountiful supply too. Dubbed ‘The Woodstock of the Mind’, Hay-On-Wye Festival is one of the world’s leading literary festivals in the world. Held during May and June this is a place to be inspired and entertained. Cheltenham hosts many other world renowned events too and is also a great place to enjoy its architecture, parks, wide range of independent shops and cafe culture.

And at the end of a day’s activities, what better place to return to than the luxury, atmosphere and dining experience at Tudor Farmhouse Hotel, your very own hideaway in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.
