Windchimes Hayloft, Torquay
Lower Warberry Road
This gorgeous little hideaway feels like an escape away from everything – nestled on the side of a romantic English garden and a fifteen minute stroll or so from the sea. The owners have lovingly converted this original Hayloft to make it an ideal bolthole for couples. If you’re hoping for fresh sea air and the chance to explore the South English coast on your romantic break in Devon then Windchimes is a great fit.
You’ll find this cosy retreat nesting in the shared gardens that you are welcome to enjoy. Windchimes is next to the home of garden designer Jacquie, and her Science teacher husband Kevin, who is also a musician and yoga instructor. They will give you privacy while being close by if you need recommendations for things to do in the area or great places to eat.
Step inside this romantic retreat and you’ll find yourself in a laid back living area with a smart Chesterfield sofa, along with a digital TV with freeview, and free wifi, for chilled out evenings in after a day exploring the bustling town of Torquay or the surrounding countryside. Alongside this, you’ll find a well fitted kitchen area, with a combination microwave oven and grill along with a two ring electric hob, for making a few nice meals in between holiday restaurant investigations and fish and chip suppers from award winning Hanburys. There’s a smart, modern shower room on this floor too.
Hop upstairs to the mezzanine floor and you’ll find a bedroom complete with double bed with high quality linen for a restful night’s sleep. It’s the perfect little package for a trip away to Torquay. There’s free parking on the roadside by this retreat too, making it easy to get here. Coming by train? There’s plenty of public transport nearby.
This retreat rests in upmarket Wellswood, within walking distance of beaches, coastal paths, the harbour, restaurants, pubs, wine bars, tourist attractions and shops. With everything close by, Windchimes makes a great place for honeymoons, sight-seeing holidays, a walking break or simply a quiet few days relaxing by the sea.
Once you’re here, there’s a great selection of things to do. For fans of walking, there are some really lovely strolls with views, including walks along the well known South West Coast Path, as well as the beautiful countryside of Dartmoor, with its famous Dartmoor ponies, and South Devon famed for its orchards, farms and cream teas.
If culture and history interest you, Windchimes’ owners Jacquie and Kevin recommend you check out Torquay Museum, followed by the amazing prehistoric caves system Kents Cavern. Greenaway - the home of writer Agatha Christie – is nearby, as is Torre Abbey, a historic hotspot that dates back from 1196 and is full of art, history and charm. Once you’ve explored here, there’s a host of beaches worth a visit too, and all within a short walk or drive. These include Meadfoot Beach, Cockington, Shaldon, St Marychurch and Babbacombe along with several more. And then there’s the fabulous city of Exeter too. All this makes Windchimes a great place for a romantic break in Devon.
