Somerset romantic hotels and cottages for the best romantic breaks

At the heart of the West Country, Somerset has dramatic coastlines, seaside resorts, classic rolling English countryside and history in abundance. The home of scrumpy cider, cheddar cheese, the art of willow weaving, Somerset is a great place for a romantic break.

Foodie heaven, history galore and countryside unspoilt, Somerset has a lot on offer. It was Bridport where Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall of River Cottage tried out his first produce, and his products are still sold at the monthly farmer’s market. Walk off those calories on the South West Coast Path National Trail which offers 630 miles of superb coastal walking. For a bit of rest and culture check out the 16th century Montacute House, featuring the longest Long Gallery in England or head off to Forde Abbey, a stately home with more than 900 years of history and romance encapsulated in this elegant former Cistercian monastery and its 30 acres of award-winning gardens.

Explore the historic cities of Bath or Wells, climb Glastonbury Tor, sunbathe at Porlock Bay or sample the local delicacies at Cheddar Gorge, we think Somerset has something for everyone. We recommend a romantic walk along country lanes, followed by a visit to an olde-worlde thatched pub for a well deserved glass of the local scrumpy cider and a retro ploughman’s lunch featuring the local cheddar. Oo arrgh!
