This romantic 18th Century thatched cottage is situated opposite the church in the picturesque Portman Estate village of Durweston, in the heart of Dorset within an area of “Outstanding Natural Beauty”. Lovingly restored in 2009, No 53 Durweston is a luxury holiday cottage that boasts a huge traditional Inglenook, oak flooring, cob walls and beams.
The cottage has vintage furniture in every room, designer accessories, contemporary paintings and incorporates all the modern comforts of wifi, flat screen TV, CD and DVD Library, thermostatic central heating and very crisp white Egyptian cotton linen, plus squidgy pillows to boot!
The kitchen breakfast room is fully kitted out with Smeg fridge and Smeg double oven, bespoke units, washing machine, dish washer, a cook books library and essentials such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, herbs and sauces.
Relax in the family bathroom with large cast iron bath and hamper of bath salts and oils. The master bedroom has a king size double bed, day bed and hair dryer, the second bedroom has a king size double bed, both with very crisp white Egyptian cotton linen.
In fact, 53 Durweston is so cosy and romantic that you might not want to leave the cottage, but just in case you feel like stretching your legs there’s plenty to see and do!
There are fabulous walks nearby with amazing views over the chalk ridges - go to the famous Hod Hill on the doorstep or stroll along the River Stour to the local pub.
Within a 10 minute drive is the Georgian market town of Blandford as noted in Thomas Hardy’s books. It has visiting food markets, a local butcher and lovely bakery - as well as being the home of the renowned Hall and Woodhouse Brewery! Within easy driving distance you’ll find lots of wonderful landscapes and village pubs. Visit Cranborne Chase, The New Forest and Lulworth Cove together with Dorchester, Shaftesbury and Salisbury.
