Asphodel Cottage | A boutique holiday cottage for couples in The Cotswolds

Dating back to 1624 and immaculately restored this beautiful little one bedroom designer cottage simply oozes character. Asphodel Cottage has its own good sized garden and uninterrupted open country views. The cottage is located in the idyllic and peaceful village of Tarlton whilst being close to chic Cirencester and Prince Charles’ Tetbury.

The owners, an art advisor and writer, have taken great care in creating a unique interior of great style in a restoration featuring natural floors, beamed ceilings and the original inglenook fireplace. There are velvet sofas, beautiful oriental carpets, fine art and classic books. Lighting is discrete and atmospheric whilst a log stove provides a delightful atmosphere.

Create a meal in the handmade kitchen before dining on the farmhouse table using vintage china, silver-plate cutlery and crystal glasses. The bathroom features a Venetian mirror, deep-pile towels, Molton Brown toiletries and a free-standing bath.

The latest in LED televisions, with freeview, is located upstairs in the bedroom (not available downstairs) together with a DVD player and varied films. There is unlimited free wi-fi and off street parking for two cars.

The delightful garden is peaceful, pretty and secluded whilst ruins of an historic outbuilding make a perfect outdoor seating area with luxury rattan sofas and soft cushions. A huge sun canopy hangs overhead with atmospheric up-lights available as the sun sets. The whole enjoys a south-facing panorama over the lands of the Bathurst Estate and rings with birdsong. Enjoy breakfast here on a sunny morning and you may just find yourself staying all day!

Tarlton is a pretty and sleepy hamlet, off the beaten track but within ten minutes of the historic market towns of Cirencester and Tetbury. A mile away via country path or dirt road is the local pub, the Tunnel House. For excellent gastro-pubs The Bell at Sapperton, Trouble House Inn, Potting Shed and Village Pub Barnsley are within a 10 min drive. Fine dining? Try Barnsley House, Calcot Manor or The Rectory.

From the doorstep there is excellent walking with the source of the Thames about a mile away. The fine house and garden at Rodmarton is just down the road with Prince Charles’ Highgrove, Westonbirt (Arboretum and the Beaufort Polo Club) and Bibury not much further. With Cotswolds towns like Stow, Chipping Camden and Burford all within an easy drive Asphodel is your perfect base.
