Candle Cottage | A luxury cottage set in a quiet Peak District paddock

Set high in the Derbyshire hills is an oak-beamed retreat with a sumptuous feel. Candle Cottage, set next to the quaint village of Winster, offers you the chance to explore the best of the Peak District from a romantic converted farm building. This luxury Peak District cottage offers a true antidote to life’s stresses and is perfect if you want to treat your loved one (or yourself!) to a special getaway with optional luxuries such as Champagne on arrival or a top quality Afternoon Tea, served in the cottage.

This award winning cottage is part of the 200-year-old Blakelow Farm and has retained its charm, with high ceilings and a stone fireplace. Set amid eight acres of rolling paddocks and gardens, the self catering cottage provides rural accommodation on the moor side of the Peak District National Park, just one mile from the pretty conservation village of Winster.

Across its gravel and flag stone courtyard, the cottage door opens to reveal a sitting and dining room with romantic wooden floors and a show-stopping chandelier. It has been furnished to impress, with a huge three-seater sofa and antique furniture. The exposed stone gable wall houses a fireplace with a log burning stove for cosy nights in.

You can wake up to beautiful rural views from a king size bed set in a galleried bedroom, complete with antique walnut furniture. On the ground floor is the elegant bathroom, with the shower over the bath.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the essentials you will require for your stay and, when the weather is good, you can step out the large French doors and onto the west-facing terrace for sunset drinks.

If you are a couple who enjoy country strolls then Candle Cottage makes an ideal base. The retreat is right on the 42-mile long Limestone Way and there are plenty of cycling routes to chose between.

The views from the farm are stunning - you can see Chatsworth House, the grand stately home where part of Pride and Prejudice was filmed – a must see for Colin Firth fans. The medieval Haddon Hall is also a recommended visit, as are the beautiful Derbyshire villages Bakewell and Buxton. The beautiful Buxton Opera House in particular, is a great place for romantic couples to watch live theatre and music.

Food lovers can enjoy great opportunities for fine dining right by Candle Cottage. There are no less than two Michelin-Starred restaurants nearby – Fischer’s of Baslow Hall and the Peacock Hotel. The owners also recommend The Old Bowling Green, a great pub a short stroll away in Winster.
