Church Cottage Studio | A secret hideaway with beautiful views, nestled in 18 acres of peaceful Devon countryside

This is an ideal getaway for a couple seeking complete relaxation, exclusivity, breakfast on their own private balcony and sunsets on the beautiful Devon/Cornish coastline. Church Cottage Studio sits in 18 acres of private land, tucked away from the busy world, but close enough for you to explore the golden sandy beaches and fishing villages of North Devon and Cornwall.

The retreat was once the photo studio for BAFTA award-winning cameraman Maurice Tibbles and is a wildlife photographers’ dream. It has been lovingly recreated to offer couples a great relaxation haven. Church Cottage Studio can be found at the end of a sweeping driveway next to a quaint listed church, dating back to the Norman period. Nicely positioned within short drives to dramatic coastlines, pretty market towns, Dartmoor National Park, as well as famous cycle routes.

Drive up to this beautiful hideaway and you’ll find the tasteful detached studio has been created with pure comfort and luxury in mind. Step inside to find a light and airy living space, with comfy chaise longue and woodburning stove for warm nights in. There’s underfloor heating, a smart TV and complimentary wifi too.

The luxury king size bedroom suite features a Tempur mattress, Egyptian cotton sheets and luxurious bedding. This room has been tastefully designed as a unique space to relax while the quality en-suite bathroom comes with a double rain shower, bathrobes, towels and complimentary bathroom products.

Just by the living area, you’ll find a bespoke modern kitchenette, with hob, microwave and grill, and fridge – ideal for a self catering break. The dining table is the perfect size for two and from here you can enjoy views out the large glass doors of Church Cottage Studio and out over the beautiful Devon landscape.

Step out and you’re onto the studio’s own private decking area, which looks across to the wildlife meadows. This makes a great spot for an alfresco lunch, or to sit back with a glass of wine at the day’s end, from this spot, others have spotted deer in the preserved grassland. There’s a barbecue area at your disposal down by the lake and Sundowners pergola (perfect for watching the sun go down!). Stroll out and there’s also an elusive otter, occasionally spotted by the lake.

The studio owners live adjacent to the studio, and will leave you to enjoy your stay in peace. However, if you want the real luxury getaway experience they offer freshly prepared Breakfast Service, served at your leisure – just ask when you book. This couple love gardening and have grown their own vegetable garden, which you can see, while they’ve left some of the land to become a wild grassland meadow.

There’s plenty to do while you’re here. Aside from the many walks across the Devon countryside, and the cycle routes including the famous Tarka trail, you’ll find a great spot for fishing at the River Torridge, 20 minutes away. There’s archery and golf and RHS Rosemoor gardens nearby too, and a great range of farm shops including the tempting Blackberry Farmshop. We think the nearby towns are worth a look at – especially Bude and Tavistock.

There are also many characterful inns for you to explore while you’re here too. These range from your local Black River Inn, four miles down the road, to gastropubs such as The New Inn, in nearby Roborough which we like the look of.
