Garden Cottage | A luxury rural retreat near the tranquil Norfolk coastline

This cosy little number won us over with its fresh air country feel. Garden Cottage is squirreled away from the busy world, tucked in the peaceful Norfolk countryside near Rookery Farm in West Beckham. The retreat has been carefully renovated to retain its original character – so it’s contemporary with a rustic vibe.

Inside, a woodburning stove warms the oak beamed living and dining area, which makes for a relaxing space for a couple to enjoy in the evenings. There is a free supply of logs so you can cosy up in front of a roaring fire with homemade cake and a cup of tea… Garden Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, and on your arrival you can expect to find a complementary welcome pack of home-made cake, milk, locally produced fruit juice, tea, bread from the local bakery and home-made jam. Can’t be bad!

Upstairs, there is a simple, light and airy bedroom, and a shiny modern bathroom. Once you’ve woken up to your holiday, you can wander out to the spacious private garden with a terrace for sitting out on sunny days and enjoying a barbecue or a cup of coffee in the fresh air.

The cottage is a short distance away from its sibling cottages at Rookery Farm. The group are all ideally placed for those who hope to explore the nearby unspoilt beaches, rolling countryside and Norfolk’s charming towns and villages.

We recommend you check out the wide sandy beaches at Cromer, Wells next to the Sea and Holkham. There are beaches at Sheringham and West Runton, which have pebbles at high tide but are flat and sandy at low tide with rock pools.

If the weather is fine you can cycle, play golf, go fishing, or head to Sheringham Park, Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall - they all have fab walks and gardens so make for a recommended location for letting off steam. There is also East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens, which is said to be stunning. We feel the need to check it out.

There are plenty of great places to eat. After a bracing walk on Holkham beach, head to the Holkham Victoria or The Crown Hotel. For a wine bar restaurant, head to Balthazars in the pretty Georgian market town of Holt (lots of retail therapy available there!). Then there’s the Michelin star restaurant at Morston Hall, in Morston village.
