Golden Oak Lodge | A luxury hot tub lodge in the forests of Snowdonia National Park, Wales

Please note that due to COVID-19 lodges at this park are not available until Sunday 26 April 2020. A hammock and private hot tub on your deck, a log burner, surrounded by ancient woodlands, pet friendly and located in one of the country’s most beautiful national parks - what more could you want? Golden Oak Lodge at Forest Holidays in Beddgelert, Snowdonia ticks all the right boxes. As just one of 16 luxury lodges dotted around this woodland location, it offers peace, seclusion and relaxation as well as a raft of activities on your doorstep.

This is a bit of a find. The few select cabins at Beddgelert in Snowdonia National Park are some of the latest by Forest Holidays and they are very special. Nestled in a picturesque glade part of a beautiful 700-hectare forest bordered by a tumbling river it feels like you’re entering a secret world.

The modern open plan luxury lodge has everything you need for an unforgettable romantic break in Wales; inside a log burner and large bath offer perfect relaxation after a day’s walk in the mountains or a romantic day out visiting one of the area’s many attractions (more about this later!). The floor to ceiling windows mean that in the daytime you can enjoy all the natural light flooding in and at night you can do a bit of star gazing in front of the fire.

Outside you’ll love the private hot tub on your deck, complemented by the hammock if you fancy a lazy few hours reading or just soaking up the sights and sounds of the forest surrounding you.

There is so much to see and do in this area. One of our favourite things is the fact that the village has a tiny train station on the famous Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways, listed as one of the 25 best rail journeys in the world. Hop on one of the steam trains and head to Caernarfon to visit the town and its famous castle or head through the breathtaking Aberglaslyn Pass and wind your way to Porthmadog for a day at the beach. Dogs and bikes are welcome on the train so it makes for a great day out.

And then there are all the walks and bike trails on your doorstep. From a gentle riverside walk to Gelert’s Grave or a proper hike up to the summit of Snowdon, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Beaches are in plentiful supply too. Try Morfa Bychan, next to Porthmadog, a wide blue-flag beach with facilities. Or Harlech Beach with its pretty sand dunes is only half an hour’s dry away.

For the more active there is the adrenaline rush of Zip World’s treetop adventures or for a more sedate day out visit the beautiful woodland gardens at Bodnant. And if you fancy a drive out then we highly recommend Portmeirion. Designed in 1925 by architect Clough Williams-Ellis it complements its natural surroundings beautifully and is definitely worth a visit.

And when you return to the pretty village of Beddgelert you can put your feet up at The Saracen’s Head, a welcoming country pub with riverside eating in the summer and log fires in the winter. Hebog café and bistro also serves up some delicious meals so you can have some great meals out locally.
