Harry's Barn | A rustic Cumbrian barn set up in style, in the unspoiled oasis of the Eden Valley

The Cumbrian countryside is a perfect place to retreat if you need some time out. We obviously love this county – that’s why we live here! Harry’s Barn is a great little escape within its green scenery. It is tucked in the Eden Valley, not far from the Lake District, in the peaceful village of Maulds Meaburn. This 200-year-old field house has been turned into an ideal place for couples to unwind and has been awarded a four star Gold Award by Visit Britain.

From the outside Harry’s Barn is inkeeping with its country surroundings, and inside the rustic vibe has been polished up and modernised, with rooms made to impress. There are exposed stone walls and oak floors, low beams and ceilings, with a natural feel. There is an open plan living area on the first floor, kitchen, dining area, comfy sofas and a wood burning stove. The main bedroom contains a king size bed, and there is also a bunkroom with a 2ft 6in bunk bed - suitable for children aged 5 - 15. The bathroom contains a small bath with overhead shower.

The rooms have a laid back atmosphere, and make Harry’s Barn a great place to venture to if you don’t like the stuffy and standardised look you find in some hotel chains.

Harry’s Barn has a large garden for you to enjoy and ample parking for your car. The garden is relatively “dog proof” - depending on your dog! Once you are here, you have all of Cumbria within reach – and it’s the ideal place for couples if you like walking. The famous walks of Alfred Wainwright can be found here, with brilliant views. And then there is the home of Beatrix Potter, and the chance to head out on historic old steamer boats, or simply have a picnic by the water’s edge.

The interesting towns of Appleby-in-Westmorland, Kendal and Keswick are all within easy reach. Appleby is famous for its annual Horse Fair, while Keswick’s hills and lake makes it look like Switzerland in England. The beautiful north lakes of Ullswater and Haweswater are only a 20 to 30 minute drive away.
