Larks Rest Cottage | A romantic getaway near London for couples seeking a historic retreat

It’s as if time has stood still in the historic Suffolk village of Haughley. The village bakery, established in 1869, is still run by the same family and the local post office is thought to be the oldest in the country. So it’s only right that our latest offering in this village dates back to the 1550’s and boasts a wealth of original features.

Located on Haughley’s high street, this cottage is picture perfect with its thatched roof and pretty timbered door and windows. Inside Lark Rest cottage has recently been lovingly restored to its former glory too with features like the brick fireplace, wooden beams and oak framed walls.

The furnishings fit in perfectly too. Lots of antiques and a cosy sofa with plenty of cushions and throws really add to the charm of this place.

At the rear of this Suffolk cottage for couples you’ll find a beautifully crafted cottage kitchen. Kitted out with all mod cons this is the place to prepare a lazy breakfast in bed or a romantic meal for two. With its vaulted ceiling and rustic stable door that leads onto a large garden, it’s a lovely place to be.

Upstairs is the romantic bedroom with antique bed, scrubbed floorboards, brick and timber framed walls and features like the antique radiator. As you walk around this romantic cottage for two you’ll notice how the owners have carefully put thought into every detail.

We love Suffolk. It has so much on offer and really feels like a world away from the stresses of everyday modern living. You’ll be able to enjoy many great walks and cycle rides straight from your doorstep. And there are so many historic houses, towns and villages to visit that you will be spoilt for choice. Just to mention a few we enjoyed Kersey, Lavenham and Debenham but you’ll find a little beauty spot around every corner.

For a larger town nip into Bury St. Edmunds, only a 20 minute drive up the road. It has a great selection of individually owned shops as well as many lovely bars, restaurants, tea rooms and cafes.

Local food and drink feature highly in this county. So you’ll be pleased to know that the village pub The Kings Arms serves a fine selection of good ales, wines and sprits, as well as some great seasonal food from a constantly updated menu.
