The Golden Oak Hideaway – A luxury log cabin with hot tub and log burner near Loch Lomond

Please note that due to COVID-19 lodges at this park are not available until Sunday 26 April 2020. Wake up between the lochs and forests of Scotland’s beautiful Trossachs National Park at this retreat – which mixes stunning design with an idyllic natural setting. Strathyre is a fresh air paradise, complete with 720 square miles of forests, along with stunning mountain views, rivers and lochs. It’s not far from Loch Lomond with its natural beauty and activities. Brits have marked out Scotland as the best place in the world for a stunning drive to blow the cobwebs away and you have your pick of them here – along with a thousand walking routes through valleys and along shorelines.

The Golden Oak Hideaway has been created to delight couples, with its log burner in the living room and gas barbecue waiting for you on the decking. Hop out of your hammock and into your own hot tub at this romantic getaway just for two. And then there’s a large sunken bath in the bathroom.

Step inside the front door of this lochside retreat and you’ll find a porch, leading into a cosy interior, stylishly decorated and full of special features. We love the log burner in the living room, for kicking back in front of the fire in the evenings. Wander across the cabin’s toasty underfloor heating and you’ll find a comfy ensuite master bedroom, complete with comfy double bed, leading to your own sunken bath for two.

The owners aim to treat guests to all the little luxuries on this retreat – from the fluffy robes and slippers in the master bedroom to the luxury toiletries in the bathroom. There’s even a flat-screen TV, featuring the ability to order food and drinks to your cabin from the Forest Retreat, and a Nespresso coffee machine waiting for you in the kitchen. We are told there’s some surprise extras included too!

Right by The Golden Oak Hideaway sits Loch Lubnaig, overlooked by mountains and forests. A close hop away, you’ll also find some of Scotland’s more secret little lochs, including Venacher, Voil and Earn. And for a view you’ll remember, the owners recommend a trip to see the Falls of Dochart at Loch Tay.

This is a great place to land if you like walking. While you’re here, head out on the Rob Roy Way for some easy going lochside walks or head up to the Lodge Forest Visitor Centre to explore the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. If the pair of you are more serious walkers and climbers, then head to Ben Ledi, Ben A’an and the Callander Crags.

There are several attractions in the area that will catch your eye, check out the magnificent Stirling Castle, steeped in history and full of surprises. On a smaller scale, Doune Castle is a magnificent example of a courtyard castle dating from the 14th century.

And after your adventures, we have a few foodie places that come highly recommended by the owners. For an easy evening, or a good lunch, head down to local pub The Lade Inn, a ten minutes’ ride away, and relax in the large beer garden. And check out Ciro’s family-run Italian restaurant for a special night out.
