Meddlars, in Hadleigh
This gorgeous wood-beamed retreat has a real feel of relaxed luxury. We can’t think of many better places to wind up for the weekend. Meddlars Cottage has kept the charisma from its 1600’s origins, while the owners have upgraded the rooms to offer a modern luxury feel. The result is that you have gorgeous ceilings and marble floors, mixed with an upgraded kitchen and a swish bathroom.
The living room has a cosy feel, with a real flame gas fire to toast your toes, and there is a dining area, perfect for two. The kitchen is light and bright, and inside you will find a welcome pack waiting for you, with all the freshest ingredients for a ‘proper English breakfast’: eggs, bacon, butter, some tomatoes, fruit, a lemon, a litre of milk and a loaf of fresh local bread.
The master bedroom upstairs is a bit of a romantic’s gem – with a beautiful king size bed and the ancient timber beams around the room. The single bedroom has also been given a luxury feel, with muted colours and luxury bedding.
There is a small but fully enclosed garden to the rear with herbs to pick, a patio decked area and barbecue, and bicycles provided. Owners recommend a walk which begins only a couple of hundred yards from the cottage, taking you along the disused railway line into the countryside. Alternatively, you can stroll into town there is a picturesque riverside walk, meandering behind the high street alongside the fields of the Brett valley.
Hadleigh is a pretty market town with masses of historic buildings and independent boutiques and shops. The town is known for its quaint pargetting - so take your camera. While you are there, we recommend you try out the gastro pubs and restaurants, because there’s a fair few to pick from. There are also lots of sights to visit, including Flatford Mill in Constable Country, where the painter John Constable created many of his most well-known paintings; Sudury where Thomas Gainsborough, England’s most famous portrait painter, was born; and Lavenham which is England’s best preserved Medieval Village.Check Availability & Prices
