Monks Cottage | A historic cottage getaway for romantics in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales

This charismatic rural retreat is a great place for couples to escape the working drag and enjoy a bit of the real life. Monks Cottage is a handsome Grade II listed cottage, with bags of charm, set in the peaceful village of Threshfield, just seven miles away from the popular market town of Skipton.

They say this is the oldest habitable building in Upper Wharfedale, and it certainly has a lot of history behind it. As its name suggests, it was first built by monks in the 13th century. Monks Cottage still has many of its first romantic features, including beams, stone flooring, exposed stonework and a fab inglenook fireplace, housing a cosy wood-burning stove.

Inside, there is a laid back vibe, with an open plan style. You can wind down in the comfortable sitting area, ideal for relaxing nights in, and enjoy a modern kitchen and dining area, with all the modern conveniences you need to whip up a great meal. Upstairs, there is a wooden-beamed bedroom with its own en-suite bathroom.

On sunny days you can enjoy a spacious garden with furniture and a barbecue. Kick back in complete privacy in the cottage’s own grounds, and the owners will allow two well-behaved pets along – so this is the perfect place to come if you don’t want to leave your dog behind.

As for a good local pub – you couldn’t be better placed. There’s a pub next door, and The Old Hall Inn can provide meals by prior arrangement, so if you feel like a night off from cooking then this is the perfect place. There is ample off road parking in the car park next door.

It’s a great place to be for fresh air and space to clear your head. Monks Cottage is centrally located in a beautiful part of the rolling Yorkshire Dales National Park. You can take off on a whole range of walks from the doorstep, including a short walk along the river to Linton Falls and the ever popular Grassington with its wide range of shops, pubs and art galleries, as well as Dickensian Festival.

While you’re here, we recommend you head out and see some of the natural sights in the area. Within an hour you can be at the stunning views of Malham Cove, the beautiful waterfalls at Ingleton, or there’s the man-made wonder of the 900-year-old Skipton Castle.
