Oak Tree Barn | A contemporary cottage for couples on a beautiful Somerset organic farm

Oak Tree Barn certainly knows how to impress. Its double height ceilings and open plan layout give it a wonderful light and airy feel and the contemporary interior with oak flooring and kitchen only add to this sense of luxury.

Downstairs you’ll find the open plan living area with a generous lounge and dining area, a kitchen fitted out with all modern appliances and the luxury bathroom with large shower. The entire upstairs mezzanine area is home to the stunning bedroom with its large king size bed. Light floods in from the two sky lights and from your bed you can enjoy views over the surrounding countryside.

These same views can be enjoyed from the secluded outside seating area where you can enjoy your morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.

Just a stone’s throw away from Oak Tree Barn you can find Castle Hill, where Time Team unearthed a 13th century castle for one of its TV episodes. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll if you fancy taking in the stunning views from the hill top.

Once you are out the door you can walk the numerous footpaths, sample the local gastro-pub or admire the views from the nearby medieval castle site. All of this is within a 30 minute drive from the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline, with its spectacular beaches and towns such as Lyme Regis and Bridport.

Hinton St George, a picturesque village situated a mile to the north, offers a village shop and an award winning gastro pub ‘The Lord Poullett Arms’. The nearest market town is Crewkerne, situated two miles to the east. This offers a range of shops, cafes an indoor pool and gym complex.

Lyme Regis, famous as the setting for the French Lieutenant’s Women, is a 30 minute drive away and offers a range of independent boutiques, second hand bookshops, cafes, fossil shops, museums and a cinema.

West Bay and Bridport, known as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast, is half an hour away. It was Bridport where Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall of River Cottage tried out his first produce, and his products are still sold at the monthly farmer’s market.

Art fans can check out the 16th century Montacute House, which is a 20 minute drive away. It has the longest Long Gallery in England and houses more than 60 of best Tudor and Elizabethan portraits from the National Portrait Gallery collection. Then there is Forde Abbey, a stately home only 10 minutes away with more than 900 years of history and romance are encapsulated in this elegant former Cistercian monastery and its 30 acres of award-winning gardens.

If the pair of you are feeling energetic, the South West Coast Path National Trail offers 630 miles of superb coastal walking. From Minehead on the edge of the Exmoor National Park to the shores of Poole Harbour, in Dorset, it is the best way to enjoy the coastal scenery, wildlife and heritage.

Food-lovers are in for a treat. Lord Poulett Arms in Hinton St George is a leisurely walk away through the country lanes. It won national dinning pub of the year in 2009. Another one to try is the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster, a 30 minute drive away. Try out their own produce in the restaurant and if you love the food, you can buy the ingredients in their shop to take home.
