Primrose Cottage | A picture perfect romantic cottage for two in Dorset

This is an ideal holiday pick-me-up for couples who want to take some time out together in the countryside. The cheery rooms in Primrose Cottage – with its romantic oak beams and cool white walls – make it a haven for those who crave country simplicity and a little luxury. Its location, in Marnhull Village, in the heart of Dorset’s Blackmore Vale, provide a great southern escape.

The 16th century cottage fuses old-fashioned cottage charm with contemporary décor. A cosy beamed sitting room with an inglenook fireplace provides a great space for hunkering down with a good book or planning the next day’s adventure. Imagine unwinding with a glass of fizz, in the cast iron slipper bath, or snoozing on the king size bed with Egyptian cotton linens and throws.

The hand painted kitchen is fully equipped for food-lovers with all the equipment you could want, to whip up a romantic meal. And you will find a hamper of teas and coffee, olive oil, fresh herbs, cook books and a welcome basket of local produce to help you settle in.

Primrose Cottage has a spacious bedroom with sumptuous king size bed for a great, uninterrupted night’s sleep. In the morning, you can step into its en-suite bathroom and a cast iron slipper bath, or tiptoe down to the shower room.

When it is sunny, we recommend a bit of alfresco dining in the cottage garden, which forms a natural suntrap. While away the hours among the plants and enjoy the selection of herbs, grown for cutting just outside the kitchen door.

Primrose Cottage is located in the centre of the North Dorset village of Marnhull, just a short stroll to an award-winning village shop, butcher, hairdressing salon and two pubs – including The Crown at Marnhull – featured in Thomas Hardy’s novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles.

This tranquil setting is a great starting place to explore the Dorset countryside. It is well worth investigating Shaftesbury, with its famous Gold Hill, and Sherborne with its independent boutique shops, and then there are beautiful windy walks to enjoy on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

If you enjoy walking, you can don your boots and head to Dorset’s Blackmore Vale, with footpaths starting right outside the cottage door. Seek out the Wessex Ridgeway or the breath-taking views from Hambledon and Hod Hill. If cycling is your thing, you can enjoy the quiet lanes around Marnhull and cycle to a country pub for lunch.

If you enjoy sightseeing, there is Stonehenge and the Cathedral city of Salisbury nearby. You could take a day trip to Bath and visit the Roman Baths, or indulge your love of gardening with a visit to the follies at Stourhead.

There is ample street parking directly in front of the cottage, or alternatively you can park in the free car park 100 yards away. And once you are here you are welcome to enjoy a ride around on the two house bikes and the barbecue in the shed.
