The Roebuck Inn at Mobberley | A stylish boutique retreat in romantic Cheshire

Feel utterly spoiled at The Roebuck Inn, located in one of Cheshire’s many romantic villages. This old inn has it all; bags of character, delicious food, interesting wines, gorgeous rooms with roll top baths and a laid back vibe. Stay here for a night and or two and you’ll come away relaxed and revived.

You may be forgiven for thinking only of the M6 service station when hearing the word ‘Knutsford’. For drivers who tend to zip past Knutsford while heading north or south on their travels, you have missed a much more attractive stop off point. Just off the motorway, and into the pretty village of Mobberley, lies a beautiful and bespoke inn. The Pecorino would be our room of choice here, and let us tell you why.

Step into this romantic retreat and you’ll find a little 18th century world, with added 21st century luxury. This Cheshire hideaway includes a beautiful king size bed, a standing roll top bath, and a toasty wood burner for lazy nights in. We love all the little treats like the Bramley toiletries and a very impressive coffee maker.

This is a seriously good-looking room, where natural wooden flooring meets deep and dark walls, with turquoise and gold details and bespoke art pieces. Just like the best menu choices, this is a room you’re unlikely to be able to pull off yourself at home, which makes the decor here all the more fun, and staying here just a little bit more special.

The Roebuck Inn includes five other rooms along with Pecorino, and all are fabulous in their own right. Tread downstairs and you’ll find a beautiful place to enjoy a Sunday roast, a delicious evening meal, tasty lunch or Cheshire breakfast and brunch. Their menu will pique your curiosity - fancy trying cepe and epoisses arancini? Peroni lager-battered haddock? Or how about Chicken breast Katsu curry? The bistro here serves food freshly prepared by head chef Andrew and his team seven days a week, including the option of brunch.

This location oozes rustic charm, and it’s hardly surprising. The Roebuck Inn has a lot of history - with the initial Grade II listed building dating back to around 1708. After falling into disrepair, new owners successfully bought the freehold in 2014, and set about redesigning the inn as a luxury place to stay, while keeping some of the rustic charm of its early years. We love what they have done, resulting in a prefect romantic retreat that will win the hearts of many.

Once you are ready to head out the door and explore, there is lots to see in the area. Cheshire is full of great walks. If you want a big city to explore, Manchester is close-by. Meanwhile, if countryside is high on your list then you are only half an hour from the Peak District National Park, including the beautiful town of Buxton, with its famous opera house. Also nearby, you’ll find the historic Tatton Park, with its Tudor Old Hall, Neo-Classical mansion and 50 acres of landscaped gardens.
