Spoutscroft Cottage | A cosy bolthole in the rolling North Yorkshire hills of Austwick

Tucked away in the Yorkshire Dales is the beautiful village of Austwick – and tucked inside this is the quaint Spoutscroft Cottage. This romantic retreat is off the beaten track and located in some of the nicest countryside around – with Malham Cove and the Settle peaks just next door.

You can wake up in the romantic brass bed, in a room with Sanderson soft furnishings and stripped pine floorboards. Next door to this double room, there is a second bedroom, as well as a cosy upstairs sitting room, where you can relax on leather armchairs and enjoy views over open fields, as well as all the books and games waiting for you. There is a bathroom with electric towel rail and romantic beamed ceiling.

Downstairs, there is a kitchen with handmade pine cupboards, granite worktops, a Belfast sink and all the modern conveniences you might need to whip up a meal to impress your partner. There will be a welcome basket ready for you too – with a few treats from the cottage owners. Next door there is a shower room with an electric shower and a utility room.

Enjoy the warmth of an open fire in the sitting and dining room, with country textures from its flagged floor and exposed stonework, and its own window seat. There is a flat screen digital TV with theatre surround sound for cinema-style nights in.

The cottage has earned itself a nifty 5 Star Gold Cottage Award by Visit Britain. It is a no smoking zone. Children and babies are welcome to stay with their parents and a cot is available by request. Because of the generous layout of the property you’ll always be able to find the perfect spot for whatever you plan to do, from enjoying the views in the upstairs sitting room to relaxing in the downstairs lounge.

Step outside and there is a cottage garden with garden furniture, for sitting out on sunny days, and solar-powered lighting for long, lazy evenings. There is also a separate enclosed patio area with additional seating – it sounds great for a barbecue.

The Yorkshire Dales is a great place to be based if you like fresh walks in the countryside. The great thing about this cottage is that you can bring two dogs (by arrangement) so you can enjoy the scenery together with your four legged friends. We recommend you head to beautiful Malham Cove and check out its stunning waterfall. Also nearby is Ingleton, with a peaceful walk that takes you right round waterpools, and falls. There is Settle, with its bustling market and art gallery - and you will also find Little House Restaurant there too – the food is great. Closer to your front door in Austwick village itself are two village pubs to try for cosy nights out – The Traddock and The Game Cock Inn.
