Tate Studies, Richmond
Escape to this historic retreat boasting impressive architecture and elegant interiors. Located in the historic centre of gorgeous Richmond, complete with large gardens and stunning views, this romantic retreat offers everything you might want for a romantic break in Yorkshire.
Tate Studies is located in Swale House, an elegant historic house built by the headmaster of the local grammar school around 1750. This pedigree is visible everywhere, from the impressive round feature window in the upstairs bedroom to the high ceilings and Georgian windows. Now restored and remodelled to a very high standard, it’s a great base for a romantic break in historic Richmond.
The living room is a perfect place to sit and relax with its comfortable leather sofas and wide oak board flooring, Bang & Olufsen bluetooth music system and 40inch Freeview TV with Blu-ray DVD player. There’s underfloor heating and a freestanding Dyson heating / cooling system to make sure the temperature is kept just right.
The kitchen diner is a great space to spend some time, prepare for a lazy breakfast in bed or impress with a romantic evening meal for two. With its high ceilings, light grey shaker style kitchen, granite worktops and grey Egyptian stone flooring it oozes cool period character.
Tate Studies boasts two bedrooms to choose from, each with its own bathroom. On the other side of the living room just up a few oak steps is the first of the two. We love the super king sized bed and sense of space in this room. It has its own en-suite shower room with monsoon shower to get your morning off to the best possible start.
Head upstairs and you arrive at the other bedroom, the only room on the first floor. Here you’ll find the gorgeous round feature window which gives this room a very elegant feel. Combine this with the vaulted beamed ceiling and the stylish furnishings and you have all the ingredients for a romantic bedroom perfect for your well-deserved getaway. Again, this room comes with its own en-suite with powerful monsoon shower.
The gardens make Tate Studies a very special holiday cottage for couples. While you’re located in the historic centre of Richmond you also have so much outside space including a large lawn that looks out over the River Swale. Here you can relax on the garden bench or a romantic picnic on the lawn. For a spot of sun bathing there is the second large patio on the other side of the property - spoilt for choice!
Richmond is a fabulous little town which is a great destination for your romantic break or weekend away. There are many good places to eat, drink and shop like The Frenchgate, an award winning restaurant offering some of the finest dining experiences in Yorkshire. We also liked Cross Lanes Organics, only a few miles out of Richmond which serves rustic dishes made with organic ingredients. They also have a lovely deli shop to buy the all you’ll need for that romantic picnic.
And if you fancy a good walk or drive out then you have the beauty of Swaledale on your doorstep. With its unspoilt landscapes and cute villages you can enjoy the best of the countryside as well as coming back to the beauty and elegance of Tate Studies and Richmond town.
