The Hayloft | A romantic luxury hideaway in the Yorkshire Dales

Run away to the north for some big skies, fresh air and rolling hills. Yorkshire is a great place for couples to escape – and we’ve found a little gem of a luxury hideaway. Tucked at the side of the rather grand Patrick Brompton Hall is The Hayloft. It used to be a stables but take a look inside. You’d never let your horse in there now!

The Hayloft has been fully converted to give it a modern and spacious feel. We were impressed by the mixture of old and new, which gives its rooms a sophisticated but understated vibe. This apartment is one of four - a labour of love for an owner with a passion for interior design. They have gone for an open plan living space, making it a great choice for a couple who like to feel they have some space, but don’t want to knock around in a large holiday cottage.

The apartment’s charisma is hard to miss, with exposed oak beams and solid oak flooring. And then there are the final tweaks, touches and colours that tie the room together and give it a slightly Scandinavian feel.

Inside, you’ll find a modern kitchen, with a centre island, a breakfast bar and all the equipment you’ll need to cook up a storm. Cosy up at the small dining table and chairs, and open the wine. Then in the evenings you can sit back and soak up the warmth from the wood burning stove, on the apartment’s big comfy sofa, in the sitting room.

The Hayloft’s bedroom space has a luxury feel too. There’s a super king-size bed and, not far from here, a gorgeous free standing bath. If you or your partner is a fan of a long relax in the bath then this will be a treat. There is also a separate bathroom and toilet in The Hayloft, including a large walk-in shower, Italian tiled walls and underfloor heating.

The location has a bit of a historic feel to it – as The Hayloft is located in the stables of the Grade II listed Patrick Brompton Hall, a Queen Anne House dating back to 1703. The estate is a tranquil affair, and the pretty Yorkshire Dales village of Patrick Brompton is ideal for those seeking a peaceful time away. From your front door you can stroll the estate’s mature woodlands, meadows and formal gardens. And if the weather is fine you could even enjoy a spot of lunch on the terrace by the beck.

Oh yes, and there are tennis courts for you to enjoy too. Lovely.

Take an evening walk to the local village pub The Green Tree, or head out and explore the nearby market towns of Bedale and Leyburn.

There are plenty of things to see, just a short distance away. Highly recommended are the Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle, as well as West Burton and Askrigg. And there are literally hundreds of walking and cycling routes taking you all over the Dales.

For food fans, there’s a good choice of top Yorkshire restaurants nearby, including the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton, The Blue Lion at East Witton and the Wyvill Arms just along the road from The Hayloft.
