The Seashell, Ardnamurchan | An extraordinary hideaway for two with stunning views

The Ardnamurchan peninsula has a reputation for being unique. As the most westerly point in the UK, it is one of Britain’s last wildernesses and a perfect place to escape for romantics loving peace, quiet and stunning vistas. The peninsula is best reached using the Corran Ferry, only adding to the feeling of ‘getting away from it all’.

Arrive at The Seashell and you’ll soon realise that owners Karen and Michael have done something very special here. Inspired by the natural curves of a seashell this eco-friendly holiday cottage for two is lovingly created using the spiral shape as its floor plan - even the doors are curved. Hand built using natural materials such as wood, stone and glass it makes the most of its stunning location perched on a hill top overlooking Loch Sunart.

Step inside from under the grass roofed canopy and you’ll be dazzled by the light and views from the floor to ceiling windows; this place certainly has the wow factor. The open plan living area features a generous kitchen, living area with dining table and comfy sofas, all perfectly positioned for those far reaching views.

Follow the natural curve of The Seashell and you’ll notice the large bed and further into the spiral a walk in shower - a perfect combination for romantic breaks or your honeymoon. And don’t worry about privacy, your only neighbours are highland cattle and the odd eagle soaring overhead.

All this is complemented by the centrepiece fireplace forming the support column for The Seashell’s grass roof so you can cosy up for a romantic night in front of the open log fire.

The Seashell also has a second wet room and toilet, a utility room, large flat screen TV and Broadband internet. But to be honest, who’s really interested in them?

Ardnamurchan offers plenty for the romantic traveller; we loved the incredible array of wildlife including over 135 bird species and mammals such as minke whale, killer whale, seals, dolphins, pine marten, otter, red squirrel… You might think we’re going on a bit here but the thing is, with all this wildlife, scenery, white sand beaches, sunsets and star filled skies, you can’t help but slow down and enjoy the simpler things in life. Add to that several restaurants offering fresh local produce amidst the sheer lack of so called “civilisation” and we reckon you’ll treasure your memories of staying here for a long time to come. In fact, we loved this peninsula so much we’ve written a small guide on it - Top 10 best things to do in Ardnamurchan.
